"Avery Discovers" Premieres

My 7 y/o daughter and I have been playing with the idea of doing her own internet show for a little while now, but it wasn’t until just today, after attending Podcamp Boston 4 for the weekend that I was motivated to just do it. So after I got home from being away all weekend surrounded by amazing minds and personalities, I told my daughter that we were going to shoot our first episode tonight. She was thrilled….beyond thrilled.

The name of the show (she came up with this on her own) is “Avery Discovers” and the premise is just that…Avery is going to share things with you that she discovers. It could be toys she likes/dislikes, movie reviews, events she attends, etc.

The first episode was thrown together in my home office with some additional lighting from around the house. We used my Kodak Z16 HD digital camera (recommended by Steve Garfield) and hit record. We did it in three takes because the first two were interrupted by Avery’s little sister who decided she wanted to join in (aka whine a lot). I then did some quick editing using iMovie and this is the final product. I hope to eventually create a fancy schmancy introduction and ending, but until then, I will keep it simple.

So I hope you enjoy what we hope will be the first of many episodes of “Avery Discovers” where in this premiere episode she talks about two of her favorite Littlest Pet Shop toys.

I would love your comments/feedback and if you have any requests for what Avery should discover next, let me know.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments! We had a great time working together on it and she is already asking when she can do the next one! I think we will keep it on a weekly schedule.

This is so cute – she is just like her mom. Just think, if she keeps this up into her pre-teen and teen years we can see episodes like, Avery Discovers…Boys, Avery Discovers…Cigarettes, Avery Discovers…booze, Avery Discovers….where mom keeps the car keys. heehee – just kidding!!!

    This is really cute.

    Fantastic!
Our little star has it, so we have no choice but to let her go nuts! It’s what we would have wanted her to do if we were her age… …physically. I’m clearing up the 3rd floor now for the studio; I’m sure another little ms. somebody would have as much fun as Avery.

…although it’s sort of sad that I get no credit here for spawning family creativity…

That was fantastic! Keep up the great work Avery… the title is perfect and it’s great that you came up with it! You’ll be able to do almost anything with your show. To your producer — the presentation is great. I love the way it looks. We need to come up with a theme song!
